We are always looking for ways to assist families navigate through the often overwhelming number of resources out there.

From funding through to school/vocational programs, we strive to introduce you to trusted names and resources in your community.

ONTARIO AUTISM PROGRAM

The Ministry of Child and Youth Services has recently rolled out the new Ontario Autism Program.  While similar in many ways to the old program, there are striking differences that are important to note including changes to the funded rates, supervision, qualifications, service periods and the number of hours each child can receive.  The most notable change is that the program no longer discharges clients at the age of 6 but is now extended until the age of 18.

KINARK

Kinark Child and Family Services is the regional provider for York, Simcoe, Durham, Haliburton,  Kawartha Lakes, Peterborough, Hastings, Prince Edward County and Northumberland, for funding under he Ontario Autism Program with the Ministry of Child and Youth Services.  For children who receive an Autism diagnosis, your next call is to Kinark’s Central Intake to put your child’s name on the Waitlist for funding for ABA through the Ontario Autism Program.  Call Central Intake at 1-888-454-6275 to discuss how to get on the Waitlist and to review with Kinark what current wait times are.

Centralized Treatment Centres

In many regions, there is a centralized treatment or resource hub where parents can access resources for their children with special needs.  Some include treatment services and others are a single point of entry to access resources and support.  The following are organizations with our regional catchment areas.

York/Simcoe - Children's Treatment Network

Children’s Treatment Network is often your first stop after receiving a diagnosis OR if you require a diagnosis.  Their single point of access centre is designed to assist families by housing services under one organization and provide centralized case information which is efficient when multiple resources are involved with your child.  The hub provides direct treatment if your child meets criteria for specific skill areas, provides community programs and has parent resources available for use on site.  CTN serves both York and Simcoe region families.
